Canada Eases Pathway for Hong Kong Residents Seeking Permanent Residency
Markham, Ontario — July 11, 2023 — In a continued show of support for the residents of Hong Kong, the Canadian government is enhancing its immigration pathways to facilitate long-term residency. Since the inception of these pathways in 2021, Canada has welcomed Hong Kongers, prioritizing their freedom and democratic aspirations. Today’s announcement marks a further step in that commitment.
Simplified Requirements for Hong Kong Applicants
Paul Chiang, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, and Member of Parliament for Markham—Unionville, declared a significant policy update on behalf of the Honorable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. Effective August 15, 2023, the education requirement under the Canadian work experience stream (Stream B) of the Hong Kong permanent residence pathways will be eliminated.
Key Changes:
- Removal of Education Requirement: Applicants with Canadian work experience will no longer need to meet specific educational criteria to qualify for permanent residency.
- Streamlined Application Process: The need to submit proof of education is abolished, reducing paperwork and speeding up the application timeline.
