Inauguration of the Centre for Innovation in Francophone Immigration: A New Era for Francophone Communities in Canada

Dieppe, New Brunswick—November 10, 2022—In a significant step towards enhancing Francophone immigration in Canada, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, alongside the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, and Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, officially inaugurated the new Centre for Innovation in Francophone Immigration. This event marks a pivotal moment during National Francophone Immigration Week.

A New Chapter in Francophone Immigration

The establishment of the Centre for Innovation in Francophone Immigration represents a strategic addition to ongoing efforts aimed at increasing the influx of Francophone immigrants, particularly in minority communities across Canada. This center, national in its scope, is poised to:

  • Enhance Accessibility: Streamline immigration programs to make them more accessible, thereby increasing the selection of French-speaking candidates.

  • Conduct Targeted Research: Undertake case studies to effectively address the bilingual workforce needs of Francophone employers and communities.

  • Boost International Promotion: Support efforts to attract and recruit French-speaking candidates into Canada's labor market.

Collaborative Efforts and Strategic Partnerships

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will engage closely with Francophone communities and organizations involved in the selection of immigration candidates. By partnering with regional economic development agencies, the IRCC aims to ensure a seamless alignment between labor market demands and immigrant skills.

Aligning with National Objectives

The inauguration of the centre aligns with the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Action Plan 2020–2023, which is dedicated to increasing Francophone immigration in minority communities. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive Canadian society, where Francophone culture and communities can thrive.

As Canada continues to embrace its multicultural identity, the Centre for Innovation in Francophone Immigration stands as a testament to the country's dedication to not only preserving but also enriching its Francophone heritage. The center promises to be a beacon of opportunity, facilitating a vibrant exchange of cultures and skills, ultimately contributing to the mosaic that is Canada.
