Canada Launches Comprehensive Initiative to Shape Future Immigration Policies
February 23, 2023—Halifax
Immigration stands as a cornerstone of Canada's long-term prosperity. To fully realize the potential of a diverse influx of newcomers, the nation requires an immigration system that is robust, user-friendly, and adaptable to evolving challenges.
In a significant move towards this goal, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced a comprehensive engagement initiative titled "An Immigration System for Canada’s Future." This ambitious project aims to explore how immigration policies and programs can align with a collective vision for the nation's future. Over the spring months, the initiative will facilitate:
- In-person dialogue sessions across various regions
- Thematic workshops that delve into specific areas of interest
- A public survey designed to gather insights and feedback
The valuable input gathered from these activities will guide the development of future immigration policies, ensuring they are designed to benefit communities across Canada for generations to come.
Engaging a Broad Spectrum of Voices
A key aspect of this initiative is its inclusive approach to stakeholder engagement. The next iteration of Canada’s immigration system will rely on collaborative efforts across society. Thus, the initiative seeks to incorporate a wide range of perspectives, engaging:
- Governmental bodies at all levels
- Businesses and industry leaders
- Academic and post-secondary institutions
- Settlement organizations
- Relevant sectors within Canada
- Clients and individuals directly impacted by immigration policies
Minister Fraser inaugurated the initiative with a dialogue session in Halifax, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing improvements to immigration policies that serve communities nationwide.
How to Participate
For those interested in shaping Canada's immigration future, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will launch a public survey in March. This survey, alongside ongoing dialogue sessions and thematic workshops, offers a prime opportunity for Canadians to contribute their insights.
