Canada Expands Global Immigration Operations with New Centre in Romania

December 6, 2023—Ottawa — As Canada continues to be a premier destination for individuals seeking new opportunities in work, education, and family life, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is taking significant steps to enhance its service efficiency. In response to the ever-growing influx of applications from around the globe, the IRCC is focused on reducing wait times and improving client service.

Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, unveiled a strategic expansion of Canada's immigration processing capabilities with the inauguration of a new global operations centre in Bucharest, Romania. This facility, housed within the Canadian Embassy, will be staffed by 20 new employees, comprising both Canada-based and locally-engaged personnel.

Expanding Global Reach

This Bucharest centre marks IRCC’s second global operations hub established outside of Canada, following the launch of its first centre in the Philippines in March of this year. These international centres are designed to complement Canada’s existing processing network, effectively extending operational hours across multiple time zones. This strategic expansion aims to bolster IRCC’s overall processing capacity, ultimately benefiting applicants by reducing delays.

Enhancing a World-Class System

Canada's immigration framework is renowned for its excellence; however, the dynamic landscape of global migration necessitates continuous adaptation. By investing in additional resources, adopting cutting-edge technology, and streamlining processing procedures, IRCC is committed to crafting the next generation of immigration solutions.

These initiatives underscore Canada's dedication to maintaining its status as a leading destination for immigrants worldwide. As migration trends evolve and complexities increase, such proactive measures are essential to ensuring that Canada remains a welcoming and efficient haven for newcomers.

As the IRCC advances in its mission to streamline operations and improve service delivery, these global centres represent a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to innovation and excellence in the immigration process. With the Bucharest centre now operational, Canada is poised to continue offering a robust, responsive, and world-class immigration system to individuals and families seeking new beginnings on Canadian soil.
