Canada Welcomes Global Youth with the Launch of 2024 International Experience Canada Program

December 11, 2023—Ottawa, Ontario — Canada continues to attract young professionals from around the world, eager to gain valuable skills and immerse themselves in the Canadian experience. Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the opening of the 2024 season for the International Experience Canada (IEC) Program. This initiative will provide nearly 90,000 young individuals from partner countries and territories the opportunity to live, work, and explore Canada.

About the IEC Program

The IEC is a reciprocal arrangement that invites youth aged 18 to 35 to work and travel in participating countries. Canada has forged youth mobility partnerships with over 35 countries and territories. In 2023, new agreements were signed with Finland, Iceland, and Ukraine, while existing partnerships with South Korea and the United Kingdom saw enhancements. These developments promise a broader spectrum of international experiences for Canadian youth as well.

Key Highlights

  • Expanded Opportunities: The 2024 season opens doors for international youth while offering Canadian youth more avenues to gain global perspectives.
  • Automation in Processing: The program will leverage automation technology to streamline application processes, facilitating efficient work and travel arrangements.

Economic and Cultural Benefits

The program's reopening is poised to deliver significant benefits to Canada's economy. As participants contribute to various industries, Canadian employers will find relief in addressing workforce shortages. Additionally, the influx of international visitors will invigorate the tourism sector, further bolstering economic activity.

A Global Exchange

As Canada prepares to welcome more international youth, the nation simultaneously encourages its own young citizens to explore and experience life abroad, fostering a global exchange of ideas and cultural understanding. This initiative not only enhances individual growth but also strengthens bilateral relations with partner countries.

As we look to 2024, the IEC Program stands as a testament to Canada's commitment to fostering global youth mobility and cultural exchange. With its dual focus on opportunity and innovation, the program continues to enrich the lives of young people worldwide, while contributing positively to Canada's diverse social fabric and economic landscape.
