Canada Caps International Student Applications for 2025

New Annual Limits Announced

Immigration Canada has set a new cap of 505,162 international student applications for 2025, marking a significant decrease from 606,250 in 2024. The cap will be in effect for applications processed between January 22 and December 31, 2025.

Application Process

  • Applications received after reaching the cap will be returned
  • Processing fees will be refunded
  • Provinces and territories assigned specific permit allocation quotas

Exemptions from the Cap

The following groups are exempt from these new limitations:

  • Students renewing permits at their current institution
  • Individuals with temporary permits who cannot be removed from Canada
  • Students with Canadian family sponsorship
