Canada Caps International Student Applications for 2025

New Annual Limits Announced

Immigration Canada has set a new cap of 505,162 international student applications for 2025, marking a significant decrease from 606,250 in 2024. The cap will be in effect for applications processed between January 22 and December 31, 2025.

Application Process

Applications received after reaching the cap will be returned
Processing fees will be refunded
Provinces and territories assigned specific permit allocation quotas

Exemptions from the Cap

The following groups are exempt from these new limitations:

Students renewing permits at their current institution
Individuals with temporary permits who cannot be removed from Canada
Students with Canadian family sponsorship
