Canada and Finland Launch Youth Mobility Agreement
Ottawa, Ontario – March 1, 2024 – In a significant step toward fostering cultural exchange and international cooperation, the Government of Canada has announced the activation of the Canada–Finland Youth Mobility Agreement. The announcement was made by the Honorable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, underscoring Canada's commitment to creating global opportunities for its youth.
Expanding Horizons for Youth
This agreement, originally signed on May 19, 2023, opens doors for Canadians and Finns aged 18 to 35, allowing them to work and travel in each other's countries. Participants can engage through the International Experience Canada (IEC) Program or the Finnish counterpart, enriching their personal and professional lives.
Celebrating Diplomatic Relations
As Canada and Finland commemorate 77 years of formal diplomatic relations, this initiative marks a pivotal enhancement in bilateral ties. It not only promotes cultural immersion but also equips young individuals with essential life skills, improves career prospects, and forges enduring social connections.
A Unique Cultural Exchange
The agreement also presents a distinctive opportunity for Indigenous youth in Canada. Those interested can explore the heritage and traditional knowledge of the Sámi people, adding a layer of depth to their cultural understanding and exchange.
Building a Global Community
By investing in their young citizens, both Canada and Finland are not just strengthening bilateral relations but also contributing to a more interconnected global community. This initiative reflects a shared vision of nurturing future leaders who are globally aware and culturally sensitive.
The Canada–Finland Youth Mobility Agreement stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between the two nations and their commitment to fostering a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive world. As young Canadians and Finns embark on this journey, they lay the foundations for a brighter, more collaborative future.
