Canada’s Commitment to Afghan Refugee Resettlement

Ottawa, February 11, 2022 — The Government of Canada is steadfast in its mission to resettle 40,000 Afghan nationals with urgency and care. In a significant stride toward this goal, nearly 460 Afghan refugees arrived in Canada over the past week via 20 commercial flights. This brings the total number of Afghan nationals resettled in Canada to 7,550.

On February 3, a notable moment unfolded at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) when a flight carrying 90 government-assisted refugees touched down. The newcomers were warmly greeted by Musqueam elders, who performed a traditional cedar brushing and welcome song.
