Protest Erupts Over Suspension of Canadian Immigration Programs
A pro-immigration group is planning a protest in Montreal this Saturday, responding to Ottawa's stop on immigration programs.
The group, called 'Québec c'est nous aussi' (LQCNA), argues that the government's decision negatively impacts immigrants already living in Quebec.
LQCNA released a statement on Saturday, stating that the new rules will make it very hard for thousands of people to renew their work permits or attain permanent residency.
They emphasized that moving to Quebec is a long process, taking months or years, and is a significant commitment.
They warn that the frequent changes to immigration policy might discourage potential immigrants from wanting to study or work in Quebec.
So, LQCNA is calling on the government to stop the halt on issuing closed work permits, the Skilled Workers Selection Program (PSTQ), and the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ) for graduates. They also want a guarantee that these programs will continue for at least the next five years.
